WOMEN?S TENNIS OPENS SEASON THIS WEEKEND
It’s the first match of the season for the Buffaloes, who are ranked No. 44 in the preseason NCAA Division I poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The first rankings of the season are based on voting by Division I head coaches. The Buffaloes are one of 10 Big 12 Conference schools selected among the top 75, while Denver, representing the Sun Belt Conference, begins the season at No. 75.
CU returns seven letterwinners from last year’s 14-9 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament and finished the season with a No. 39 national ranking. Junior Kendra Strandemo and senior Morgan Sall won 24 and 22 matches, respectively during the 2002-03 season, while fifth-year head coach Nicole Kenneally welcomes three newcomers to the Boulder.
The Pioneers were 15-7 last season and return six letterwinners. DU has a trio of players ranked among the ITA’s preseason rankings: No. 60 Suzanna Maksovic, No. 80 Yannick Dullens, and the doubles team of Maksovic/Dullens are ranked 48th.
Colorado holds a commanding lead in the all-time series, 25-2 and has won the last 15 matches in a row.
