BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team officially opens the 2004 spring season this Sunday, Feb. 1 when it hosts a dual match against CU-Colorado Springs and CSU-Pueblo at the Meadow Creek Tennis and Fitness Club in Lakewood at 5:30 p.m. Both matches will start at the same time.

 

The Meadow Creek Tennis and Fitness Club is located at 6305 West Sixth Avenue, Lakewood and directions are posted at the bottom page of this release.

 

The Buffaloes enter the season under the direction of second-year head coach Sam Winterbotham with an underclassmen team comprised of one junior, three sophomores and six freshmen. Local standout Chad Tsuda from Fairview HS enters his second year with CU, while the Buffaloes open the spring campaign with five of its first seven matches at home.

 

CU-Colorado Springs enters the match with a 1-2 record and return four letterwinners from a year ago that advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional. The Mountain Lions were 10-3 last season and are currently ranked No. 10 in the Division II North Central Regional.

 

CSU-Pueblo plays its first match of the season on Sunday and represents the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Returning seven letterwinners from its 10-8 team a year ago, the Thunderwolves, formerly known as Southern Colorado, are ranked No. 5 in the Division II North Central rankings.
