DIGLIODO REACHES QUARTERS AT ALABAMA INVITE

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ? Sophomore Marcos Digliodo won a pair of singles matches and reached the quarterfinals of the Flight B Singles bracket at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships, Friday afternoon hosted by the University of Alabama. The three-day event from Oct 29-31 features 18 teams from across the nation that includes seven players ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The tournament will feature three flights of singles and doubles. There will be back draws in each flight with every player guaranteed three matches.

Digliodo, the fourth seed, opened his Round of 32 singles match dropping the first set only to rally and defeat George Gvelesiani of Georgia Tech, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was Digliodo’s sixth victory out of his last seven matches. Digliodo made it seven out of eight later in the day, defeating Scott Felsenthal of Notre Dame in a much easier match, 6-2, 6-4. He will take on another Irish player Saturday morning in Yuichi Uda.

“Marcos played great and completed very well after a slow start, then he rebounded and played four sets of great tennis,” said CU head Sam Winterbotham. “In doubles, Jan (Zelezky) and Marek (Dvorak) played and competed very well along with Marko (Bundalo) and Peter (Bjork).

Both CU doubles teams will play in Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

“Peter played six hours of singles today losing a heartbreaker in his first round match,” said Winterbotham. “He is trying to implement a new style and I’m really proud of his commitment toward improving his tennis game.”
