WOMEN?S TENNIS SIGNS A PAIR FOR 2005-06
BOULDER ? University of Colorado women’s tennis head coach Nicole Kenneally has announced the signing of Monica Milewski and Samantha Orlin to National Letters of Intent and to continue their education next fall in Boulder.
The student-athletes signed during the November early signing period from Nov. 10-17.
Milewski is the Illinois State High School Singles Champion and a three-year letterwinner from Main South High School in Park Ridge, Ill. Currently nationally ranked as the No. 38th girls player in the 18 and under division, Milewski also helped guide her high school to a No.10 state ranking.
Milewski, the No. 1 singles player at Main South, was also an all-state and all-conference selection during her junior season and is undecided for her intended college major next fall at CU.
“Monica is a great kid who is a natural fit with the Colorado Buffaloes,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “We are very excited to have her join the team and I think she has a lot for great qualities on the court that will only keep improving through college.”
Also joining Colorado next fall is Samantha Orlin. An impressive six-time letterwinner at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions from Ransom Everglades High School in Miami, Fla. Orlin is a two-time member of her high school state champion tennis team and a state runner-up three of the last five years. Individually, she earned the coaches’ award three times, was an All-Dade County singles selection twice, and a first-team all-county doubles honoree.
Olin’s intended college major at Colorado will be sports medicine and early childhood education.
“Sam is a great tennis player with a great future ahead of her,” said Kenneally. “We are very excited she chose CU and I think she will have an outstanding collegiate career.”
The CU women’s team graduates one senior at the end of the 2004-05 season and will return an experienced group of student-athletes next fall with a pair of seniors and juniors, and four sophomores.
“Monica and Sam are two great additions to our team next fall,” said Kenneally. “I’m extremely excited that they have decided to join CU. They bring tremendous national experience with them, which I think will only enhance their transition into college tennis. They are definitely the two highest U.S. recruits signed by Colorado since I have been here and I think it is a sign of where we are headed.”
