BOULDER? University of Colorado senior Renee Metivier, the national runner-up at last week’s NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country Championships, is a Collegiate Women Sports Award (formerly the Honda Sports Award) finalist in the sport.  This is her second nomination for the award as she was also a finalist following her sophomore season (2001) at Georgia Tech, when she had an identical national finish.

 

            She is the second CU women’s cross country runner to be recognized for the award, as Kara Grgas-Wheeler, the 2000 NCAA Champion, was the eventual Honda Broderick Cup winner in the sport that season.

 

            Metivier, NCAA champion Kimberly Smith (Providence), Caroline Bierbaum (Columbia) and BYU’s Laura Turner are the other finalists.  The winner, from a nation-wide ballot, will received the Honda-Broderick Cup in cross country, one of the most coveted awards in women’s collegiate athletics on the Division I, II and III levels. As finalists, American Honda will donate $1,000 to the athletic department’s of each nominee’s university.  The winner’s program will receive $5,000.

 

            The national balloting begins tomorrow, Nov. 30, with the results announced Monday, Dec. 6.
