            BOULDER ? University of Colorado soccer senior defender Ellen Falender was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 Women’s Soccer Second Team Thursday.

 

            The Aspen, Colo. native is one of eight defenders on the first and second team with a 3.878 grade point average in finance.  Coming into her senior season she carries the sixth-highest grade point average amongst CU’s student-athletes and has the team’s highest gpa.  She has started 13 of 19 games for the 24th-ranked Buffs and has a single goal and career single season best four assist for six points.

 

            Falender is one of 22 first and second team members who will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America national ballot and one of five from the Big 12 Conference.  She also joins the University of Denver’s Diana Brunkhardt and Colorado  College’s Meghann Loseke from the Centennial State.

 

Earlier this week she was named First-Team Academic All-Big 12.

 

            She came off the bench and played 12 minutes in CU’s stunning 2-1 overtime win against Missouri in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Tournament last night.  The Buffs play 10th ranked Texas A&M Friday at 6:30 p.m. (MT) for the right to advance to Sunday’s championship game.
