TWO CU STUDENTS WIN TRIP TO HOUSTON BOWL

Two lucky students are beneficiaries of a University of Colorado promotion at the last two men’s basketball games, as they won the opportunity to join the football team in Houston for next Thursday’s (Dec. 29) EV1.net Houston Bowl.
Steven Gensmer had his name drawn at random by CU tailback Bobby Purify last Saturday at intermission of the Buffs’ 89-83 win over Colorado State, while Lesley Scherer was selected Tuesday at halftime of CU’s 79-68 win over Missouri-Kansas City.
They were two of hundreds of CU students that entered the drawing. The irony in both cases is that Gensmer and Scherer are both from Texas?Gensmer from Sugarland, a southwest suburb of Houston, and Scherer from Plano, just north of Dallas.
Both won round trip airfare and a game ticket to CU’s appearance in the Houston Bowl against UTEP. The Buffaloes, 7-5 on the year, were the Big 12 North Champions, while UTEP finished as the runner-up in the Western Athletic Conference with an 8-3 mark.
The athletic department devised the promotion as a way to say thank you to the CU students for their tremendous support this past football season. Student season tickets sold out of the entire allotment prior to the first game for the first time since 1992.
