WACO, Texas ? The Colorado men’s tennis team  fell in a 7-0 decision to the Baylor Bears on Friday night in Waco. It was the first dual match loss on the year for the Buffs, whose record now stands at 4-1, 0-1 in the Big 12.

“When you’re playing a team of their caliber, it’s tough to win, but our team competed hard,” head coach Sam Winterbotham said. “We still learned some things from the match.”

The match, originally scheduled for 2 p.m., was postponed for four hours after snow in the Waco area forced it’s relocation to an indoor facility.

“It was definitely a long day,” head coach Sam Winterbotham said of the change in plans. “But the guys were ready to play. Everybody was ready to play.

What the Buffs weren’t ready for was the level of competition supplied by the No. 5-ranked Bears. In losing efforts at every position, only No. 2 singles player Marco Bundalo was able to force a third set. After falling behind early and dropping the first set 6-4, Bundalo rallied for a 6-4 win in the second before succumbing to the nation’s No. 3 player in Benedikt Dorsch.

“The match was very good,” Winterbotham said. “Baylor is a great team. These guys played tough. Some matches were close than others. Marco comes to mind as one. He took the No. 3 player in the country to three sets, and to be honest, he was just as good for most of the match.”

Colorado now turns its attention to Texas Christian, which they will face on Sunday in Dallas.
