 BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team returns to home action this Monday, Feb. 23 when they take on the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies at the brand new CU-Boulder South Campus Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.

 

In case of inclement weather, the match will be moved to the Harvest House Bubble Tennis Courts.

 

The Buffaloes (4-2, 0-1) begin its Big 12 Conference home season on a two-match losing streak after opening the season with four straight wins. The Aggies (7-4) will be playing their second conference match in three days as they take on Nebraska today (Saturday).

 

CU brings a youthful look to the courts this season under the direction of second-year head coach Sam Winterbotham. Underclassmen dominate the roster comprised of only freshmen and sophomores. Freshmen Peter Bjork and Marcos Digliodo have split time at No. 1 singles with Bjork having a 2-1 mark, while Digliodo is 2-0 at the top spot. Overall, Bjork and Digliodo are a combined 17-9 for the 2003-04 season.

 

As a team, CU brings a 25-11 springs record among its singles players into Monday’s match with the Aggies.

 

In doubles, Bjork and sophomore Marko Bundalo are 4-0 this spring, including 3-0 at No. 2 doubles.

 

Texas A&M, ranked No. 9 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll have struggled on the road in 2004 with a 1-3 mark. A&M is led by two singles and one doubles team ranked among the national polls. Lester Cook is 17th, Ante Matijevic is 19th, while duo together is ranked the top doubles team in the nation.

 

Monday’s match is only the fifth match at home for the Buffaloes this spring with Nebraska (March 6), Texas (March 17), Denver (March 30) and Wichita State (April 21) remaining before the conference tournament on April 29-May 2 in Norman, Okla.

 

 

Directions to the CU-Boulder South Campus Tennis Courts

From Boulder ? Hwy 36 east, exit Table Mesa. Straight at light, passing through open gate, turn right at fork in the road. The courts will be on the left.

From Denver ? Hwy 36 west, exit Table Mesa/South Boulder Road (via right at fork at off ramp). Left on Table Mesa (exit ramp light) go through 1st set of lights and proceed over bridge (Hwy 36).  Left at 2nd light. Passing through the open gate, turn right at fork in the road. The courts will be on your left. Parking is south of the courts.
