CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ? The No. 16 ranked University of Virginia men’s tennis team extended its win streak to six matches Monday night by defeating Colorado, 5-2 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The win brings the Cavaliers’ record to 15-1 on the season, continuing the best start in school history.

The Buffaloes fall to 5-10 and drop its fifth straight loss, all to nationally ranked schools.

The Cavaliers took an early advantage by taking the doubles point securing the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

However, there were a few bright spots for the Buffs that included the No. 1 doubles slot where Marcos Digliodo and Marko Bundalo upset the No. 17 ranked doubles team of Rizza and Meythaler, 9-7, handing UVA’s top doubles team their first loss of the spring at No. 1.

In singles play, the Cavaliers extended their advantage to 2-0 as Stewart, the nation’s No. 24 ranked player, wasted little time topping Marko Bundalo 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. After the Buffaloes had closed the advantage to 2-1 with Peter Bjork’s 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2, Virginia clinched the match with straight set wins at No. 6 and No. 4.

Marcos Digliodo broke a personal 10-match losing streak and defeated Stephen Rozek 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.

“It’s really exciting to play the No. 16 ranked team in the country,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “Our guys are starting to win at the top of the lineup and we’re getting better. I’m proud of their efforts and our wins tonight were impressive.”

CU continues its road trip through the state of Virginia taking on No. 56 Virginia Tech, Wednesday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
