SEATTLE, Wash. - The University of Colorado track and field team sent 11 student-athletes to the University of Washington for the UW Last Chance Qualifier.  The trip proved successful as CU athletes earned six NCAA provisional qualifying marks on Saturday afternoon.

"We had a very good day, out of 13 races we had 12 personal bests," said head coach Mark Wetmore.  "Six of those times were NCAA provional qualifying marks, four or five of which will probably get into nationals."

Freshman Stephen Pifer ran the second fastest time ever in the men's mile run, the best time ever for a freshman. His mark of 4:02.09 is an NCAA provisional time

Freshman George Pincock had personal bests in both the 200 meters and 400 meters.  He won both events, taking the 200 meters in 21.83 and the 400 meter dash in 48.07.  Freshman Laura Ziegle was ninth in the mile run in 4:54.50 in what coach Mark Wetmore characterized as "a solo time trial."

Senior Deneeka Torrey scored two personal best times in the women's 60 meter hurdles, running a mark of 8.42 in the finals of the event.  The time is an NCAA provisional mark and makes her the second-fastest hurdler ever at CU behind former conference champions Hannah Cooper and Mandi Farqhuar.

Christine Bolf and Kalin Toedebusch both earned provisional marks in the women's 5,000 meters.  Bolf came in at 16:17.80, the sixth-fastest runner ever at Colorado, followed by Toedebusch in 16:19.19 who now ranks seventh.

Jason Zichterman's time of 1:51.20 in the men's 800 meter run, though not a qualifying mark, makes him the fourth fastest at CU and is a CU freshman record. Renee Metivier ran a 12 second personal best in the women's 3,000 meters, taking first in a time of  9:18.17.

"I'm confident that Christine, Kalin, Renee and Bret will get into the NCAA's. We'll just have to see for Stephen Pifer.  If he had had any help in his race, he would have had the school record."

The next stop for the Buffaloes is the NCAA Championships next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
