CU MEN?S TENNIS DEFEATS NEBRASKA, 5-2

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team used precision singles play in addition to claiming the doubles point to defeat the University of Nebraska, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Millennium Harvest House Tennis Courts. Colorado breaks a five-match losing streak and improves to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12, while the Cornhuskers drop to 4-4 and 0-2 in the conference.
In doubles play, the Buffaloes took an early 1-0 lead at No. 1 behind Marcos Digliodo and Evan Dixon taking a narrow 9-8 (5) victory and at No. 3, Chad Tsuda and Marek Dvorak took care of business for a convincing 8-3 win.
“We played a lot of doubles this week and it paid off,” said Head Coach Sam Winterbotham. “Marko Bundalo in singles today was fantastic. He showed the level of maturity that he didn’t have last year. I thought we as a team needed to win today and I’m proud of our effort.”
The momentum carried over to singles play as CU dominated the No. 2 through No. 5 slots. At No. 2, Bundalo won his third consecutive match rallying from a set down 4-6, but soon took a 7-5, 6-4 winner. CU followed suit in its remaining singles matches with Peter Bjork breaking a three-match losing streak winning at No. 3, 6-0, 6-3; and Marek Dvorak won his sixth of eight matches in the spring dominating 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.
Colorado closed out the scoring with Chad Tsuda getting back in the victory column taking a straight-set winner at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1.
CU takes to the road at the Blue-Gray National Collegiate Classic next weekend in Montgomery, Ala. (March 11-14) where the Buffaloes will be one of 11 teams competing.
