MEN?S TENNIS SET TO TAKE ON TEXAS A&M AT BIG 12s

BOULDER ? The Colorado men’s tennis team begins their second season this Friday, April 30 taking on number two seed Texas A&M in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

The Buffaloes are the No. 7 seed and finished conference play with a 1-6 record, while Texas A&M (20-7) finished the regular season with one loss in seven matches. In their lone head-to-head match up this season, the Aggies, then-No. 9 nationally, defeated CU back on Feb. 23 at Harvest House, 5-2.

The winner of the CU/Texas A&M match will play the winner of No. 3 Texas/No. 6 Texas Tech, Saturday, May 1 at 10 a.m.

“Texas A&M (ranked nationally No. 22) is a very good team and they have a history of playing well in the Big 12 Tournament,“ said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “I think we’re playing our best tennis and I’m confident if we work hard, we can win.”

CU (7-15) enters the post-season on a two-match streak after defeating Denver and Wichita State. In the Big 12 post-season, the Buffaloes have fell victim in the opening round (quarterfinals) the last three seasons.

The Buffs are comprised with a youthful presence of five freshmen, four sophomores, and one junior on this year’s team. Freshman Marek Dvorak has won the most matches this season for CU with 19, followed by Peter Bjork with (14), Marko Bundalo (13), and Marcos Digliodo (12). During spring play, a trio of freshmen, Bjork, Bundalo, and Dvorak each have won 10 spring matches. In doubles, Bjork and Bundalo have a team best five victories.
