TENNIS FALLS TO TEXAS A&M AT BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
EDMOND, Okla. ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team saw their season come to an end today falling to No. 2 seed Texas A&M, 4-0, Friday morning at the Oaktree Country Club hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
The match originally scheduled on the OU campus was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
CU ends the season 7-16, while the No. 22 nationally ranked Aggies, improve to 21-7 and advance the conference semifinals.
Despite losing the doubles point, the Buffaloes bounced back in singles play pushing A&M to the limit in various matches. Although it was not finished, freshman Marek Dvorak won his opening set at No. 3, 6-3, however would fall in the second only to have the match not competed after A&M secured the four points needed to win. Texas A&M rounded out the scoring taking the No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 singles slots.
“We played a couple spots short today,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “From the beginning of the season to the end, the guys have improved. They kept fighting and I’m proud of this team.”
The Buffaloes, seeded seventh seed in the tournament finished the regular season conference play with a 1-6 record, while Texas A&M finished the regular season with one loss in seven matches.
The Buffs are comprised with a youthful presence of five freshmen, four sophomores, and one junior. Freshman Marek Dvorak won the most matches this season for CU with 19, followed by Peter Bjork (14), Marko Bundalo (13), and Marcos Digliodo (12). During spring play, a trio of freshmen, Bjork, Bundalo, and Dvorak each won 10 spring matches. In doubles, Bjork and Bundalo had a team-best five victories.
