BOULDER ? University of Colorado men’s tennis head coach Sam Winterbotham has inked his first student-athlete commitment for the 2004-05 season announcing that Colorado native Charles Yemm of Fort Collins will be joining the Buffaloes roster next academic school year.

Yemm, a four-year letterwinner from Fort Collins High School is coming off a stellar senior year that saw him achieve a 20-2 record, in addition to being named an all-state selection. Yemm is a two-time Northern Conference Player of the Year and a four-time Northern All-Conference selection.

Yemm joins fellow Coloradoan and local standout Chad Tsuda, who was a two-time state champion at Fairview High School.

“We are extremely excited to have Charlie join our program,” Winterbotham said. “He is the highest ranked senior in Colorado to go to school in August and we are very excited to have him join our program. He is a great athlete who competes extremely well. Both Charlie and the coaching staff have high expectations for him as he improves at CU.

“We want the best players in Colorado to choose the University of Colorado as their #1 choice, and I think its great that Charlie gets the opportunity to represent his home state for four more years.”

Yemm was the Lambkins No. 1 singles player all four years earning a perfect 30-0 record in dual meets and an impressive 68-14 mark at the top singles slot. He was a member of the Fort Collins High School team that was crowned the 2002 Regional Champion, in addition to the 2002 and 2003 Fort Collins City and Northern Conference champion teams.

Dave Hodge, CU Assistant Coach and Colorado Tennis Association Male player of the year believes that Charlie will be a great asset to the CU tennis Program.

“We are looking forward to Charlie joining the program in August. His work ethic and strive to succeed will be an important addition to this team.”

Yemm, a 5-9, 145-pound incoming freshman will be joining a young Colorado Buffaloes team comprised of six sophomores, two juniors, and one senior. Yemm’s intended major is international affairs with an interest in pre-law.
