BOULDER ? University of Colorado men’s tennis student-athlete Peter Bjork was named Region VII Rookie Player of the Year, announced Monday afternoon.

Bjork, a freshman from Huddinge, Sweden is one of head coach Sam Winterbotham’s outstanding newcomers who won 14 matches during the 2003-04 season. Bjork’s win total was good enough for second overall on a young CU team comprised five freshmen, three sophomores and one junior. 

“We are honored that Peter was selected for this award,” Winterbotham said. “He has worked extremely hard both in the classroom and on the court.”

Bjork won four matches each at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles slots coupled with a pair of wins at No. 1 for 10 spring victories. In doubles, Bjork recorded eight triumphs for the spring, nine overall for the season.

“Consistently playing in the #1-3 positions he produced some extremely good wins,” Winterbotham added. “He is very deserving and we couldn't be prouder of him. We hope that this is the first of many awards for Peter and our program and feel the future is very bright for CU Tennis.”
