ROOSEVELT 13TH IN GS AT WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES

INNSBRUCK, Austria ? University of Colorado freshman Rachel Roosevelt posted the third best finish by an American here Thursday as she finished 13th in the women’s giant slalom in the 2005 World University Games.
She is one of four Buffaloes, along with CU head ski coach Richard Rokos, who are participating in the games, the 21st annual event as they began in 1960 and take place every two years.
Poland’s Dagmara Krzyzynska won the event in a two-run time of 2:09.94, a healthy win over Georgia’s Jelena Lolovic (2:10.58). Roosevelt posted a time of 2:14.31, which included a 1:06.93 morning run, the 11th best time for the first run. Megan Hughes of Middlebury had the best American finish, taking fourth in 2:12.54, with Vermont’s Jilyne McDonald sixth in 2:13.53.
CU sophomore Kristin Taylor, skiing for her native Canada, placed 22nd in 2:15.36, a little disappointing as she was 13th after her first run which she skied in a 1:07.07 clocking. Another Buff freshman, Lucie Zikova, is here representing her home country of the Czech Republic and came in right behind Taylor in 23rd in 2:15.64.
Colorado junior Erika Hogan started 31st in the order and couldn’t make up ground on the leaders, finishing 37th overall in 2:20.00. Hogan is the most recent American to have medaled in the games, as she took home a bronze for a third place finish in the slalom, her top event, in the 2003 games in Tarvisio, Italy.
