HOGAN, ROOSEVELT POST TOP 20 FINISHES IN SLALOM AT WUG

INNSBRUCK, Austria ? University of Colorado skiers Erika Hogan and Rachel Roosevelt posted top 20 finishes in the slalom here Saturday, as the 2005 World University Games wind to a close.
Hogan, a junior, finished 17th in a two-run time of 1:46.50, though was 13th after the morning run. Switzerland’s Aita Camastral won the event with a 1:41.78 time, which was good for nearly a half-second win on snow that was described as “grippy” in 25-degree weather. Hogan’s effort was the third best by an American Saturday.
Hogan remains the most recent American to have medaled in skiing in the games, as she took home a bronze for third place in the slalom in the 2003 games in Tarvisio, Italy. The best American finish this year was fourth by Megan Hughes in the giant slalom on Thursday; Hughes also had the best USA finish Saturday with an eighth place showing.
Roosevelt, CU’s star freshman, finished 19th in 1:46.83, she was 17th following the first run, but starting outside the top 15 left her little chance to make up any ground in Saturday’s conditions.
CU sophomore Kristin Taylor, skiing for her native Canada, finished 29th 1:51.20, as she did manage to improve from a 35th place standing following the morning run. Another Buff freshman, Lucie Zikova, was here representing her home country of the Czech Republic, but did not race in the slalom after finishing 23rd in the GS.
CU head ski coach Richard Rokos also was on the U.S. coaching staff for the games. The closing ceremonies of these 21st annual games are Sunday; the CU ski team returns to action this weekend in the Denver Invitational at Winter Park.
