BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team ranked No. 74 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) moves its matches closer to home this weekend by taking on the University of Denver, Friday at the Meadow Creek Tennis & Fitness Club in Lakewood. The match will begin at 6 p.m.

Colorado and Denver have each played two matches so far this spring season with the Buffaloes bringing a 1-1 record into Friday’s match, while the Pioneers are 2-0. CU upset No. 33 New Mexico, 4-0 last Saturday at the 2005 ITA Mountain Region Indoor Championship at Boise State. The Buffs fell in the finals to the host and No. 42 Broncos later in the day.

DU played its two matches at Des Moines, Iowa defeating Creighton, 6-1 and Drake, 4-3.

The Buffaloes/Pioneers are familiar foes in recent memory having played every year since 1997 with CU holding an 8-1 advantage. Overall, CU has dominated the series, 21-2 since 1963, however Denver surprised CU last spring defeating the state’s largest university by a 4-3 margin back on March 30. CU evened the score a month later, defeating DU on the road, 5-2.

Both schools also have a national ranked doubles team on their squad. For CU, Marcos Digliodo and Chad Tsuda are No. 33, while DU has the No. 52nd duo in Nejc Smole and Adam Holmstrom.

CU returns close to its campus on Sunday, Jan. 30th taking on NCAA defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Baylor at the Harvest House, Millennium Hotel. Match begins at 10 a.m.
