NO. 1 BAYLOR DEFEATS NO. 74 CU, 6-1 IN MEN?S TENNIS

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team dropped a tough 6-1 decision to Baylor, the NCAA defending national champion Sunday afternoon at the Harvest House.
CU dropped to 2-2 and 0-1 in the conference, while the Bears improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12.
The Bears took an early 1-0 lead securing the doubles point highlighted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) No. 7th ranked team of Lars Poerschke and Matija Zgaga defeating CU’s No. 33 team of Marcos Digliodo and Chad Tsuda at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. BU would later secure the doubles point claiming the No. 3 slot.
CU did notch a point against the defending champions at the No. 4 position as Peter Bjork added to his 21st career win total (3-1 this season) upsetting the ITA’s No. 45 ranked player in Matija Zgaga, 7-5, 6-4.
“I think we have a team that can compete with anybody in the country,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “They (Baylor) are a great team and I think today we showed extraordinary effort. Everybody here saw it. I think obviously Peter (Bjork) was great; that guy (Zgaga) is a Top-50 college player and Peter beat him in straight sets. Peter is a great tennis player and he showed it today.”
Colorado is idle until Feb. 13 when the Buffaloes host Montana State.
“College tennis is the best kept secret in college athletics. It is such a fun environment,” Winterbotham said. “The crowd gets into it and the players get into it ... and there is energy all over the place.”
