BOULDER ? Allie Griffin, a senior right side hitter on the No. 25 University of Colorado volleyball team, is featured in this week’s edition of Sports Illustrated. Griffin is in the Faces In The Crowd section for the week of Oct. 10-16 when she was named the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) National Player of the Week.

The Baton Rouge, La., native led the Buffaloes to a pair of upsets that week (Oct. 10-16) over then-20th-ranked Kansas State and then-24th-ranked Texas A&M. Griffin recorded a career-high 29 kills against the Wildcats on Oct. 12, and amassed a .490 hitting percentage. She hit just five errors on 49 attempts as CU won 30-14, 30-25, 25-30, 28-30, 15-5. Griffin also chipped in 11 digs, two blocks and an assist as she recorded 30.5 points. On Oct. 16, she hammered 21 kills as CU rallied back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat the Aggies 20-30, 25-30, 30-26, 30-28, 15-10 at College Station, Texas in front of 1,605. Griffin completed her performance with 14 digs, five blocks, six assists and 23.5 points. She averaged 5.40 points, 5.00 kills, 2.50 digs, 0.70 assists, 0.70 blocks per game and hit .343 for the week.

Griffin has notched 20 or more kills in nine matches this season and CU is 7-2 in those matches. Earlier this season she tallied her 1,000th-career kill and became the 12th Buff to accomplish the milestone. Griffin is the seventh player in school history to record 1,000 career kills and 200 career blocks.

Griffin isn’t the only Colorado connection in this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated. Former Colorado wideout Jeremy Bloom is also featured in the magazine as he prepares for the Olympics this coming February in Torino, Italy. Bloom is a gold-medal favorite in freestyle moguls.

The No. 25 Buffs (13-7, 9-6 Big 12) are in action tonight against the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns (18-3, 12-2 Big 12). The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on FSN Rocky Mountain.
