KANSAS CITY ? Fran Munnelly, senior midfielder for the University of Colorado women’s soccer has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s All-America team.  Munnelly was named to the second-team, the first time a player from CU has earned that honor and making it the second  time Munnelly has earned All-America status from the NSCAA in her stellar career after a third team nod a year ago.

“It is really a great honor to be selected to the All-America team just once, but to get picked twice is really humbling,” said Munnelly.  “I really owe this honor to my teammates over the past four years and to our coaching staff because without them, I wouldn’t get any of this recognition.”

Munnelly, a native of Arvada, Colo., led Colorado to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, where the Buffs fell in the second round to eventual national runner-up UCLA.  She finished her career as CU’s all time leading scorer with 30 goals, and also handed out 24 assists in her four years for 84 career points, both CU records.  She started all 85 games she played at CU, the most ever for a Buffalo.

She was one of 13 players on the All-America team to earn repeat recognition this season, and is the only CU player ever to earn All-America honors from the NSCAA.  She was named to the second team Soccer Buzz squad in 2003 and earned honorable mention honors from the online soccer magazine last year.

An integrative physiology major, Munnelly became the first CU athlete ever to have their jersey honored while still enrolled in school.  Munnelly was honored at halftime of the CU vs. Nebraska football team in a presentation from athletic director Mike Bohn, C-Club director Bill Harris, C-Club president Frank Bernardi and head coach Bill Hempen.
