BOULDER ? Kaitlin Burkett of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jessica Drexler of Monument, Colo., and Emilee Sisco of Enumclaw, Wash., have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and participate in the volleyball program at the University of Colorado for the 2006-07 season, Colorado Head Coach Pi’i Aiu announced.

“We are very excited about our 2006 class,” Aiu said. “Each one of them addresses a need that we have filled, and all of them are very talented players.”

Burkett, a 6-1 setter/hitter, was a four-year letter winner for St. Mary’s High School. She collected 368 kills, 379 digs and 319 assists her senior year and was the first player at her high school to average a triple-double with 12.26 kills, 12.63 digs and 10.63 assists per match. Burkett was a four-time all-conference selection, a three-time all-state selection, and was named to the All-Colorado Team as a senior. She was named the most valuable player of her club team, the Colorado Juniors, which won the USA Volleyball 17-under championship. Burkett is a two-sport athlete and has earned three letters in basketball. She was also recruited by Arizona, California, San Diego, Pepperdine, Hawai’i, Washington, Penn State, Kansas State and Tulane.

”Kaitlyn Burkett is a setter from St. Mary’s High School,” said Aiu. “She is a very talented all-around player. She hit and set for her high school team, and gives us a lot of options tactically.”

Drexler, a 5-10 middle blocker/outside hitter, earned four letters in volleyball at Lewis-Palmer High School. She was an all-state second team and an all-area first team pick as a junior and senior. Drexler was the 2005 team captain and was named the team’s most valuable player in 2004 and 05. Drexler, a club teammate of Burkett’s, was on the same 17-under team which claimed the national title last summer. She was also recruited by New Mexico, Kentucky, Denver, North Carolina State, Colorado State and Michigan State.

“Jessica Drexler helped Lewis Palmer to the State Tournament,” Aiu said. “She has a good jump, a strong arm, and may help us both in the middle and the outside.”

Sisco, a 6-4 outside hitter, was a three-time letter winner for Enumclaw High School. She led the league with 169 kills (3.59 kpg) in 2005, a South Puget Sound League record, as EHS went 11-2 and earned its first trip to the state tournament in nine years. Sisco set a school records for aces and kills in a match with 11 aces and 27 kills. She was an All-SPSL First Team selection, was named to the 2005 Volleyball All-Star Team and was a Wendy’s High School Heisman State finalist. Sisco also participated in basketball and track. She was in the top-10 at state in the javelin and discus as a sophomore and junior, respectively. Sisco was also recruited by Stanford, Florida, Texas and Penn State.

“Emilee Sisco will graduate from Enumclaw High School early and enter CU and join our team in January,” said Aiu. “She is a physically gifted player and brings us some size on the left side.  She will be very much better for having been here a full spring of training prior to her first season in fall 2006.”

Colorado finished the 2005 campaign with a 15-13 overall record. The Buffaloes finished fifth in the Big 12 Conference with a 10-10 record. CU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in 15 years.
