Men?s Tennis Places Five Singles, Two Doubles Among Mountain Region

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team placed five players and a pair of doubles tandems in the final fall Mountain Region rankings announced this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The rankings are based on the fall results that the men competed in from September through November. There are eight regions in men’s tennis with CU competing in the Mountain Region.
Juniors Eric Molnar and Peter Bjork cracked the top-six, while senior Marko Bundalo, junior Jan Zelezny, and junior Marek Dvorak were among the Mountain Region’s top-30 players. Four of CU’s student-athletes finished in top-16.
Molnar entered the fall season winning the most singles matches on the roster reaching the winners’ circle 12 times and a No. 5 regional ranking. Bjork won 10 matches, tied for the second most on the team, was ranked No. 6.
Bundalo, who was ranked No. 47 by the ITA during the fall season, was No. 12 regionally, followed by Zelezny at No. 16, and Dvorak No. 28. Zelezny was tied for second on the team with 10 fall victories with Dvorak reaching eight wins and Bundalo with four.
In doubles, the Buffaloes placed a pair among the Mountain Region’s top-15 with Molnar and senior Chad Tsuda finishing the fall with a top-five ranking, followed by Bjork and Bundalo at No. 8.
Molnar/Tsuda went 8-6, while Bjork/Bundalo were 2-2.
“It is great to see our guys rewarded for their great efforts this fall,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “I am really looking forward to the spring, we have a number of options for the top spots in the line-up and just as much competition for the 5-6 position.”
The CU men open the spring home schedule with back-to-back home matches against Utah (Sat., Feb. 4) and Montana State (Sun., Feb. 5) at the Boulder Harvest House. Both matches begin at 1 p.m.
