COLORADO SPRINGS ? Senior Allie Griffin has been named to the 2005 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Central Region Team, announced today by the AVCA. Junior Ashley Nu’u was named to the honorable mention squad.

 

Griffin, a 6-0 right side hitter from Baton Rouge, La., is Colorado’s 15th all-region pick and is the eighth CU player to be honored. The Buffaloes have produced at least one all-region player for nine consecutive seasons. This is the second time in as many years for Griffin to receive the honor.

 

A 2005 All-Big 12 Conference selection, Griffin led the Buffs with 486 kills, which ranks third on the single-season chart and notched 533 points. She also led the team in attacks with 1,016 (19th on the single season list). Griffin was an all-around player as she was second in assists (62), third in blocks (77) and was fourth in digs (213) and attack percentage (.290). She was second in the Big 12 in kills (4.57) and points (394.0).


            Griffin became the first Buffalo to be honored as the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) National Player of the week on Oct. 18. She wraps up her career at CU on several career charts. She is sixth in kills (1,283), eighth in blocks (266), 10th in attacks (2,863), 14th in assists (186), is tied for 14th in attack percentage (.254) and is 21st in digs (620). Griffin became the 12th member of the CU 1,000 career kill club and the seventh Buff to record 1,000 kills and 200 digs in a career.


            Nu’u, a 5-10 junior setter from Aurora, Colo., earned her first all-region recognition. She was named to the 2005 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team for the second consecutive season. Nu’u passed out 13.16 assists per game this season, which ranks third in the Big 12 and 17th in the NCAA. She added 113 kills, 194 digs, 68 blocks and recorded the second best hitting percentage on the team at .309. Nu’u was one of three Buffs to participate in all 110 games. She was honored as the Big 12 Player of the Week on Oct. 31.

 

Colorado finished the 2004 season at 15-13, its 18th straight season with a record of .500 or better. The Buffaloes also advanced to the NCAA tournament for the 15th time in school history and 14th in the past 15 years.
