BOULDER - The No. 64 University of Colorado men’s tennis team won the first half of their doubleheader today by defeating Montana State 6-1 at the outdoor Harvest House courts in Boulder.  Colorado improves its record to 3-2 on the season.  The match was moved from the South Boulder Tennis Courts to the Harvest House due to high winds.

          

“It was a good team win,” head coach Sam Winterbotham said after the match.  “I just think, overall, the team is playing with confidence. Our guys remained very disciplined and focused and the better a team we are, the more successful we are going to be.”

 

In singles play, Peter Bjork, after upsetting No. 45 Matija Zgaga of Baylor in his last outing, won his third consecutive match defeating Kyle McDonald 6-1, 6-2.  Bjork improves his record to 4-1 on the season at the No. 4 singles position.  Elsewhere in singles, Marek Dvorak and Chad Tsuda, the No. 5 and No. 6, singles respectively, are now 3-1 on the season after winning their matches this afternoon.  Dvorak beat Justin Hauck in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, while Tsuda defeated Jake Berriochoa also in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. 

 

Sophomore Marcos Digliodo won his 24th match of his young collegiate career by edging out Tejeshwara Chigateri, 7-6, 7-6, while sophomore Jan Zelezny won his third match in five outings taking a winner at No. 2, 7-5, 6-0 over MSU’s Marek Gebicki.

 

CU won the doubles point by taking two out of three matches from the Bobcats. The two duos of Bundalo/Bjork and Dvorak/Zelezny both won their matches, 8-5 and 8-3, respectively at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.  Bundalo and Bjork now have a team best 3-1 record this season at their position and are 5-2 overall.

 

Colorado will try to go 2-for-2 today as they face the Colorado School of Mines at 6 p.m. at the Harvest House indoor courts.
