Five Men's Tennis Athletes Honored

BOULDER ? Five University of Colorado men’s tennis student-athletes have been recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom during the fall 2004 semester. Sophomores Jack DePaolo and Justin Rofel, join freshmen Vince Pietro, Charlie Yemm, and Jan Zelezny having all earned academic honors according to the Fall 2004 Herbst Academic Center newsletter.
“It is a wonderful honor for each of them to be recognized for their efforts,” said CU men’s tennis head coach Sam Winterbotham. “The guys just work hard, and it’s exciting to see them rewarded for doing so. It’s just a great group and I'm proud to be working with them.”
The CU men’s tennis team was recently named one of the top varsity sports on the CU campus according to the Herbst Academic Center. Among CU’s 17 varsity sports, men’s tennis recorded the fourth best grade point average with a 3.040. Finishing ahead of them for the fall semester was men’s skiing (3.151), women’s skiing (3.148) and women’s cross country (3.112).
In the breakdown of CU’s student-athletes according to G.P.A, Rofel (finance) and Zelezny (finance) ranked among the students in the 3.50-3.99 category, while DePaolo (political science), Pierto (open option) and Yemm (international affairs) fell in the 3.00-3.49 range.
