No. 31 Boise State Escapes Past CU Men's Tennis, 4-3

BOISE, Idaho ? Winning the doubles point and upsetting the No. 8 doubles team nationally wasn’t enough as the No. 31 Boise State Broncos rallied in singles play and defeated No. 45 Colorado, 4-3, Friday afternoon in non-conference men’s tennis action.
CU won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles slots in addition to claiming two of three doubles points only to fall in four of six singles positions.
Boise State improves to 22-7, while the Buffaloes fall to 7-8 in a three-day weekend of tennis hosted by the Broncos. CU will take on No. 50 South Alabama (13-4) Saturday afternoon and Idaho (3-7) on Sunday.
“We lost a tough one today,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “It was great to see our guys win the doubles point and complete like that. They really stepped up and played extremely well.”
Marcos Digliodo and Chad Tsuda won perhaps their biggest match of the spring upsetting the No. 8 duo of Thomas Schoek and Luke Shields, 9-8 at No. 1 doubles, but more impressively, 7-1 in the tie-breaker. CU clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with Marek Dvorak and Jan Zelezny winning another exciting 9-8 match. Digliodo/Tsuda won their fourth straight, while Dvorak/Zelezny claimed their third straight.
In singles, Digliodo remained red-hot at No. 5 winning his fourth straight match ? all in straight sets (6-0, 6-4), while Tsuda won his sixth of his last seven at No. 6 taking a straight-set winner (7-5, 6-3).
For the season, Digliodo won his team-best 18th match of the season (8th spring) and Tsuda his 14th and dual match best ninth singles tally.
“Marcos and Chad are firing on all cylinders and doing a great job for us, but I’m disappointed at our four top singles matches,” added Winterbotham. “I think they didn’t bring the right attitude and I expect them to rectify that tomorrow against a very good South Alabama team. It will be a good battle for us.”
