No. 38 Texas Defeats CU Men's Tennis, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team fought hard and gave No. 38 Texas all it could handle losing, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in a Big 12 Conference match. The Longhorns notched their first conference win in four attempts and improve to 9-6 overall, while the Buffaloes drop to 8-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
At No. 1 singles, it wasn’t business as usual for Callum Beale, the No. 36th ranked player from Texas. CU sophomore Jan Zelezny rebounded after dropping the first set, 6-3, to upset Beale 7-6, 6-4. Zelezny snapped a personal six match losing skid for his first win since March 11, rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the final set to continue Beale’s losing streak to four matches.
CU playing the underdog role entering the match made the afternoon play interesting at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions forcing the Longhorns to win in the decisive third set. At No. 5, Marek Dvorak won his opening set 6-4 over Milan Mihailovic, however fell 6-1, 6-3 in the next two.
At No. 4, Marcos Digliodo, who had won five of his last six matches, rallied in his second set after dropping the opening set, 6-1. He evened the match at one with a 6-2 decision, but subsequently fell in the decisive third, 6-3 to No. 65 Roger Gubser.
Texas would take the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 singles slots in straight sets. The Longhorns added the doubles point sweeping all three slots.
Colorado, ranked No. 52 nationally is 2-3 on its current road trip, returns to the state of Texas for a pair of matches next week at Texas A&M (April 15) and Texas Christian (April 17).
The Buffaloes return home to close out the dual conference regular season against Oklahoma (April 23) and Texas Tech (April 24).
