BOULDER ? Marko Bundalo upset No. 40 Boren Szumanski in straight sets to win his fourth straight match, however, No. 10 Texas Tech dominated the other matches, including the doubles point to defeat the University of Colorado, 6-1, on a rain soaked Sunday afternoon played at the Millennium Hotel Bubble.

The match originally played outside at the South Campus Tennis Courts was moved indoors about two and half hours into the doubles and singles matches because of rain. The match was resumed at the Millennium Hotel after the Red Raiders had already took an early one set lead in five of the six singles positions.

The only match where CU held advantage was Bundalo, who went on to win his 20th match of the season and defeat a pair of ranked opponents during his current four match winning streak. It was the junior’s 44th career singles win and his fourth triumph in his last five matches at the No. 2 singles slot. Before this week of play began, Bundalo earned his first collegiate ranking among the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) elite players coming in at No. 123rd.

The Buffaloes also saw the No. 3 doubles team of Marek Dvorak and Jan Zelezny win their 12th match of the year with 11 of those coming in dual play. All 11 victories have come at the No. 3 doubles slot.

Overall on the day, the No. 10 Texas Tech showed why their one of the top teams in the Big 12 heading into tournament play. The Red Raiders took three of four singles points in straight sets claiming their 23rd win in 25 matches this year, and improved to 5-2 in the conference.

“Today we played a better team, those guys (Texas Tech) deserved it,” said CU assistant coach Chris Garner. “Our guys definitely held their own, had a lot of opportunities to get themselves in the match and unfortunately it didn’t happen. The ball didn’t roll on our side today, but we got another run in us for next weekend and hope we learned from something today.”

CU travels to the University of Texas, April 28-May 1 for the Big 12 Conference Tournament.
