Colorado Sports Medicine
Welcome to the University of Colorado Sports Medicine Department where we are a diverse staff, passionately dedicated to providing a multifaceted health and wellness experience with the best interest of the student athlete as a priority. We are thorough in providing support through quality healthcare while navigating the demands placed upon the student-athlete.
The University of Colorado Sports Medicine Department is led by Miguel Rueda, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health and Performance. The diverse staff at the University of Colorado includes twelve certified athletic trainers. We collaborate with physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, mental health professionals, performance nutrition and many other health professionals. Full service athletic training rooms are located in the Champions Center, Dal Ward Athletic Center, and the CU Events Center. The CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center is a fully functional orthopedic clinic, including x-ray and MRI, which is located within the Champions Center and services CU student-athletes as well as the general public.
Upon completion of the Champions Center, the University of Colorado Sports Medicine Department became one of the most comprehensive sports medicine departments in the country. Cutting edge technology and resources are available to all student-athletes, including multiple anti-gravity treadmills, a HydroWorx underwater treadmill, hot and cold whirlpools, two 60 foot recovery pools, rehabilitation equipment, physician exam rooms, and a variety of therapeutic modalities. All three facilities are also equipped with a NordBoard Hamstring Testing System, GroinBar Hip Strength Testing System, and Motion Capture System to aid the sports medicine staff in prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.
