BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men’s and women’s basketball teams tip-off the 2006-07 season with their inaugural “Buff Basketball Madness” this Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Coors Events/Conference Center.

 

Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is free.

 

All the fun and excitement of Buff Basketball will get underway at 7:50 p.m. with the alumni game, followed by scrimmages from both men’s and women’s teams, a 3-point shootout and a slam dunk contest.

 

Get a sneak peak of both teams with the men coached by 11-year veteran Ricardo Patton and second-year women’s coach Kathy McConnell-Miller. Coach Patton has been called this season ?The Dean’ of the Big 12 Conference Coaches having served the longest of any current league coach. The 2006-07 men also feature preseason All-Big 12 first team selection Richard Roby and eight true freshmen.

 

McConnell-Miller's Buffaloes return eight letterwinners to the 2006-07 squad including All-Big 12 second-team performer Jackie McFarland who led the Buffaloes in scoring and rebounding a year ago. Also returning are Jasmina Ilic, who led CU with 55 3-pointers last year, and Kara Richards, the Buffs' starting center in 2004-05 who missed last season with a foot injury.

 

Both teams open the regular season on Nov. 10 with a doubleheader at the CECC. The women play the University of San Francisco Dons (6 p.m.) and the men host in-state rival the University of Denver Pioneers (8:30 p.m.).
