2006 Colorado Football: Game 9 -- Kansas

The Colorado Buffaloes (1-7, 1-3 Big 12) remain on the conference road as things arenGÇÖt getting a whole lot easier as they travel due east to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jayhawks (3-5, 0-4 Big 12) in a 12:00 p.m. MDT kickoff at Memorial Stadium... The game will not be televised live (KU does a tape delay replay show but it is not available in Colorado)... ColoradoGÇÖs lost seven games by an average of 10.1 points, including three by four points or less, while the Jayhawks have lost their five by a combined 27 points (5.2 per), including a 1-point and 3-point setback and two others in overtime sessions... This game will be a milestone of sorts, as it will be the 300th on artificial surface in CU history, as the Buffs are 177-117-5 all-time on the fake stuff... Saturday marks the 28th anniversary of CUGÇÖs largest comeback, as in 1978, the Buffs rallied from 20 down at Missouri to win 28-27 (see details on page 7)... Colorado is coming off a 24-3 loss at Oklahoma, a defensive struggle to say the least as the teams combined for 384 yards; unfortunately for the Buffs, they had just 113 of those. OU took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and it was a field position chess game in the cold, windy night in Norman until the Sooners capitalized on a muffed CU punt return to go up 17-0 early in the fourth quarter... CU is still mathematically alive for the Big 12 North title and a bowl game (itGÇÖs BCS or bust for the Buffaloes: if CU wins out and wins the Big 12 North, it must win the title game to go bowling). See page 3 of these notes for the full picture... Colorado is averaging 59.5 plays per game, on pace to be the fewest run by the Buffaloes since 1963, when they averaged 57.6 plays per game in Eddie CrowderGÇÖs first season (10-game season; the fewest in an 11-game campaign was 63.2 in 1967)... The Nov. 4 Kansas State at Colorado was selected for television by Fox Sports Net and will kick off at 1:30 p.m. MST... CUGÇÖs website, www.CUBuffs.com features game day updates and live stats for all games.
