Last Wednesday the Nordics competed in the first Eldorado Time Trial of the season.  Many former athletes have expressed opinions stating this is the most difficult of all CU time trials, simply because it is a shorter uphill time trial that gets steeper as it goes on.  The times are between 13 and 16 minutes, so there is really no time to rest and the athletes have to “get after it” the whole time.

It was a mass start format with the men going out first, followed by the women 1 minute later.  The men raced a half a kilometer further than the women and finished where Bruce was.  The women stormed off the start line, but four minutes into the race their pace slackened a little, albeit very slightly.  It ended with Lenka and Maria battling for the win, and Lenka edged her by 1 second in a new course record.  She bested the old record, previously held by Jana Rehemaa, by 1 second.  The results are below, but overall the team gave a solid effort.  Maria was 41 seconds faster than her previous best, Mia Gaw was 57 seconds faster, Megan Wilder bested her time by 17 seconds, and both Joaquin and Kit were within seconds of last years time.

Thursday morning also brought 24 inches of snow to our home course Eldora.  They rolled the trails Saturday; which enabled us to ski on good snow Sunday the 29th, CU’s earliest day on snow in recent team history.

Did not run because of sickness: Maisha Goodpaster, Matt Gelso, & Garrett Reid.  Josh Smith did not race because he is studying abroad in Germany, but he is training hard.
