Bill Hempen ?

“I’m a little disappointed, based on the stat sheet it looks like it was all at our end.  I don’t think it was, from what I saw.”

“I’m so proud of my kids for battling for 90 minutes.  Even after the third goal they were still out there battling.  They’ve been doing that since mid October and we succumbed to a very talented Notre Dame team with a dangerous attack.  Hats off to them, but I’m very proud of my kids.”

ON FIELD ? “They [conditions] weren’t ideal, but it’s not going to be a reason why we didn’t score.  I wish it could have been better, but it wasn’t.  Both teams were out there and both teams were battling.  They slipped just as much as we did and that’s just the way that it was tonight.”

ON GOAL DEFICIT ? “I don’t know exactly what happened on the first goal, but I think my keeper kind of got stuck in the quicksand back there and really couldn’t react one way or the other.  It was a great shot.  It’s a difficult environment to play in.  You’ve got the No. 1 team in the country, but I refer back to how hard the kids played.  They could have just laid back but they were going to try and make something out of this and they certainly did.”

ON UNDERCLASSMEN ? “After that midpoint of the season when we were struggling, I think that they get it now.  Nikki’s going to make sure that the next group of kids that come in have that same desire and that same intensity every time that they step on the field and put that Colorado jersey on.”

Katie Griffin ?

“If you had to lose to somebody you might as well go out to the No. 1 team in the nation.  We worked our butts off.  You win some, you lose some, but overall I thought we all played good as a team.”

“It was a great opportunity to come and play them.  We’ve never played Notre Dame before, and like Bill [Hempen] was talking about, we got to play Notre Dame, UCLA, North Carolina and Portland in four years.  These are the best teams out there and it was great and I’m glad that we got the opportunity.”

ON PROGRAM LEVEL ? “I think every year we’re getting closer and closer and hopefully the people after us continue to get better.”

Nikki Marshall ?

ON NEXT YEAR ? “I think throughout this season and especially after we got into that slump, it was all about playing for your seniors.  I think that’s going to be there forever; play for these guys, even though they’re not here.  We’re going to carry on their legacy because they’ve taught us so much.”

“Playing against the best girls in the nation can only make you better.”
