BOULDER ? The two schools are less than 600 miles apart, but did not meet for the first time in football until September of this year.  But officials at both institutions are making sure the neighbors get together more often as the University of Colorado and Arizona State University jointly announced today another set of games on the gridiron.

Colorado will host the Sun Devils in Boulder on September 14, 2013, with the Buffaloes to return the game in Tempe on September 15, 2018.  It’s the furthest-out confirmed game on CU’s future football schedules; the 2018 return was the earliest date that worked for both schools to complete the home-and-home series.

“This series is a natural.  Colorado has a large alumni base in the Phoenix area and we recognize the great opportunity to build our relationships with this important constituency through the upcoming games with Arizona State University,” CU athletic director Mike Bohn said.  “This contest is also important to our recruiting efforts in the west and provides a quality game for national television exposure.”

Similar sentiments prevail with Arizona State.  Officials from both schools informally discussed scheduling another home-and-home series when ASU came to town in September; when the Sun Devils had a date become available in 2013, they initiated contact with the Buffaloes and the series was agreed on in less than 24 hours.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Boulder earlier this season and renewing this series was a priority for us,” says Lisa Love, Vice President for Athletics at Arizona State. “We are thrilled to have a series of this magnitude on our future schedules.  We traveled very well to Boulder and our fans had a great time. It was a tremendous experience. It is an easy trip and we look forward to hosting Colorado next season in Tempe.”

Arizona State won the first meeting between the pair, posting a 21-3 verdict in Boulder on September 16 in a nationally televised game on TBS.  Colorado will travel to Tempe for the return game next September 8.

The addition of ASU now means CU’s future non-conference schedules are complete for 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2013; the Buffs are in need of one opponent in 2008, 2010 and 2011.  Here’s a closer look (#?site to be determined):
