Marshall, Munnelly and Griffin Earn All-Region Honors

2006 CU Soccer Goals

BOULDER ? University of Colorado women’s soccer standouts Nikki Marshall, Laura Munnelly and Katie Griffin have again garnered All-Region honors, this time getting the nod from Soccer Buzz online magazine.

Both Marshall and Munnelly were named First Team All-Central Region, joining former Buff Fran Munnelly as CU’s all-time first team selections. Laura Munnelly was previously recognized as a first team pick in 2004, receiving second team honors last year. Griffin earns second team honors for the first time in her career. Aimee Bugay, Griffin and Tricia Regan are CU’s all-time third team Soccer Buzz picks.

Marshall also earned Regional Freshman of the Year honors after posting 17 goals and three assists for the Buffaloes. The Big 12 Freshman of the Year and the conference’s leading scorer in 2006 is the first Colorado player to earn one of the two top player awards for the region but the eighth Big 12 player to do so in the eleven years the award has been presented.

Sixty-eight schools comprising the Central Region were eligible. Buzz awards were based on a nomination process open to all Division I coaches and balloting results of a voting panel of selected Division I Head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff.
