Conference FB Schedules Through 2015 Released

BOULDER ? The Big 12 Conference released the conference game schedules for football for the 2008 through 2015 seasons Tuesday, thus completing several University of Colorado future schedules in the process.

The league athletic directors approved the development of the schedule for an eight-year period, instead of the four-year increments released previously on three occasions. Over 100 initial schedules were drawn up by computer, with four eventually being settled on for each school to rank in their order or preference.

Also approved was the implementation of a ?split-week’ schedule in those years where there are only 13 playing dates between Labor Day and Thanksgiving weekends, a concept which allows opening games in league play over two weekends to create early season bye dates either prior to or just after the start of Big 12 play. This provision was also overwhelmingly supported by the head football coaches, but does mean in some years, the bye week that existed prior to the post-Thanksgiving games no longer exist.

The league television contracts, up for renewal after the 2008 season, will eventually determine which day after Thanksgiving rivalries such as CU-Nebraska, Oklahoma-Oklahoma State and Texas-Texas A&M will be played. The conference had that in mind in scheduling those as the final regular season game for the schools involved, with the possibility in some seasons that the CU-NU game may be played on either Friday or Saturday, with the determination to be made no later than June 1 of a particular season.

Colorado’s future schedules through 2015, including those non-conference games currently mutually agreed upon between schools; schedules are complete for 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2013, with one game yet to be added in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
