Nu?u Named To USA Volleyball Squad

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? University of Colorado junior Ashley Nu'u has been selected to the 2006 USA Women’s National Volleyball A2 Team, as announced by USA Volleyball on Monday. Nu’u is one of 12 players to be selected for the squad and is the lone representative from the Big 12 Conference.

Nu’u, a 5-10 setter from Aurora, Colo., was a 2005 AVCA All-Central Region honorable mention and a 2005 All-Big 12 honorable mention selection. The all-region recognition was the first of her career, while it was the second conference selection for Nu’u. Nu’u passed out 13.16 assists per game this season, which ranked third in the Big 12 and 17^th in the NCAA. She added 113 kills, 194 digs, 68 blocks and recorded the second best hitting percentage on the team at .309. Nu’u was one of three Buffs to participate in all 110 games. She was honored as the Big 12 Player of the Week on Oct. 31.

The team was selected by each player’s performances at the 2006 Women’s National Team Tryout at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from Jan. 13-15. The team will train in New Orleans, La., from May 22-26. Florida Head Coach Mary Wise will lead the team. Wise will be assisted by Kansas State Head Coach Susie Fritz and another assistant to be determined. The team will participate at the USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships in the Women’s Division at the Earnest N. Morial Convention Center from May 27-30.
