Zikova, Grevsgaard RMISA MVPs

BOULDER ? The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) named University of Colorado sophomores Lucie Zikova and Maria Grevsgaard the most valuable skiers in their respective disciplines Thursday.
Zikova was named the MVP for women’s alpine and Grevsgaard for women’s Nordic among the 10 RMISA schools, as the two represented the regular season champion Buffaloes.
The points each skier accumulates over the course of the eight races in the RMISA regular season determine the honors. Zikova easily won, but Grevsgaard edged DU’s Anna-Karin Maki by a single point (478-477), with CU freshman Lenka Palanova third (463).
Zikova, who hails from Prague (Czech Republic), set a school record with five victories this winter, eclipsing the old Colorado record of four. She also finished as the runner-up in the three races she did not win.
Grevsgaard, from Geilo, Norway, won one race (the freestyle at CU’s invitational), with two seconds, two thirds and a fourth over the course of the season; she finished outside the top six just once in eight races.
Utah’s Scott Veenis won the men’s alpine honor, with Denver’s Rene Reisshauer claiming the men’s Nordic title. CU sophomore Kit Richmond tied for second in the latter with DU’s John Stene, as the pair both accrued 475 points behind Reisshauer’s 483. Veenis won by a single point over New Mexico’s Alex Mach.
Colorado won the regular season point standings with 2,299.5, besting Denver (2,220.5), New Mexico (1,997) and Utah (1,876.5). Both CU and DU won two meets, though the Buffs’ margin of victory in the two was 80.5 points to the Pioneers’ 13; CU finished second to Denver in the two meets it did not win, while New Mexico finished second in CU’s meet and DU as the runner-up at Western State. The Buffaloes will be presented with a team trophy at next week’s NCAA West Regional/RMISA Championship in Truckee, Calif.
