AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. ? The University of Colorado track and field men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams shone on the first day of the Air Force Invitational, here today at the United States Air Force Academy.

 

The men’s team, made up of Abe Friesen, Bret Schoolmeester, Anthony Chiulli and Stephen Pifer, took top honors in the DMR with a combined time of 10:01.69, 34 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Colorado State. Christine Bolf, Liza Pasciuto, Sara Ensrud and Mikaela Raddatz made up the DMR on the women’s side and took second (12:13.66), just seven seconds off of the winner.

 

Senior Zach Hazen threw a distance of 60-10.5 to place fourth in the weight throw. James Begley’s weight throw of 56-1.25 was a personal record as the placed eighth in the event.   

 

            All other events that CU participated in were preliminaries and 17 Buffs qualified for the finals. Rob Thayer qualified in the mile by taking first and Seth DeMoor ran the 3k in 9:13.20 and took second in his first collegiate race. Jackie Sturm was the lone CU woman to qualify in the 200-meter dash with a ninth-place finish and Mikaela Raddatz took fourth in the mile.

 

Colorado will be back in action tomorrow for the second day of the invite.
