BOULDER ? The University of Colorado men's tennis team won five singles matches in straight sets and dominated Sunday’s match against No. 71 Montana State to remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0.  Junior Peter Bjork, senior Chad Tsuda, and senior Marko Bundalo are also perfect through their individual spring matches.  Bjork and Tsuda are 4-0, while Bundalo is 3-0 on the spring season.

“The team played very well,” head coach Sam Winterbotham said after the match.  “I think they are very focused.  They came together and competed hard.”

Tsuda dominated Jake Berriochoa in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.  A local from Fairview H.S. in Boulder, Tsuda has not lost a set this spring and leads all Buffalo current players with 54 career victories.  After the match, Chad spoke about the team’s current success going into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Washington.

“We knew we had to play competitively and I think we did that this weekend.  We have a lot of confidence going into Indoors.”

Also in singles action, Peter Bjork won his eighth out of his past nine matches, winning over Marek Gebicki 6-1, 6-4.  Marko Bundalo won his third straight match of the spring season with a triumphant win over Kyle McDonald 7-5, 6-3, while Jan Zelezny and Marek Dvorak also were in the winning column, victorious over the Bobcats Tejeshwara Chigaterii and Jakob Dybala, respectively.

In doubles action, sophomores Charlie Yemm and Geoffrey Chizever saw their first action of the spring season at the No. 3 doubles position, squeaking out an 8-7(2) victory of the Montana State duo of Chigateri and Berriochoa.  Colorado won all three doubles matches.

Colorado will have more than a week to rest before traveling to Seattle to take on the top teams in the nation at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Feb. 17-20.  Colorado qualified for the Indoors by winning the ITA Regional Playoff in Boise, Idaho this past January.

“It’s an opportunity for these guys to go against the best in the country,” Winterbotham said about the upcoming tournament.  “From the way that they are focused, the confidence that they have, I expect us to have a great tournament.”
