BOULDER ? Three former University of Colorado standout basketball players will be honored at halftime of the Colorado/Texas Tech men’s basketball game this Saturday at 2 p.m.

Robert Jeangerard (1953-55), Jim Davis (1961-64), and Scott Wedman (1971-74) each will be honored and have their jersey number raised to the Coors Events Center rafters joining a quintet of other Colorado greats: Burdette Haldorson (#22, 1951-55), Cliff Meely (#20, 1969-71), Chuck Gardner (#13, 1963-66), Ken Charlton (#23, 1960-63), and Chauncey Billups (#4, 1995-97).

Here’s a look at Saturday’s honored recipients:

 

Robert Jeangerard (#20), Forward

1953-1955; Head Coach H.B. “Bebe” Lee

            Two-time All-Big Seven Conference selection; member of two Big Seven Conference Championship teams.

In 1953, set a school record for free throws in a single game (14-of-17); also fifth in Big 7 scoring senior year.

            Member of the 1956 U.S.A. Olympic Gold Medal Basketball Team

            Member of CU’s 1954-55 Final Four Men’s Basketball Team

            Member of the 1959 Pan-American Games

Jim Davis (#20), Center

1961-1964; Head Coach Sox Walseth

            Two-time All-Big Eight Player; led CU in scoring as a senior (18.5 ppg.) and fourth in the Big 8 that season in scoring (19.3 ppg.). In 1963, Davis set the highest field goal percentage at CU (.502, 108-of-213). When he graduated from CU, Davis held the school record for rebounds in a career (863) and was third all-time in scoring (1,110 points).

            Jim guided Colorado to two Big Eight Championships during a brilliant three-year career.  He emerged as one of the school’s all-time rebounders and scorers.  In addition to being a fine rebounder and scorer, Davis was also known for his defensive skills. Presenting Jim with his jersey is former teammate and Assistant Men’s Coach Mike Frink, and the late-Sox Walseth’s two sons, Joe and Nick Walseth.  

 

Scott Wedman (#4-soph., #14-junior, senior years), Forward

1971-1974; Head Coach Sox Walseth

            Two-Time All-Big Eight selection; named to 1970’s Big 8 All-Decade Second Team; three-year starter; senior season set a CU record for field goal percentage in a season (.535,199-of-372); was second in Big 8 scoring-all games with 20.0 ppg., fourth in rebounding (9.3 rpg.); in Big 8-only games was third in scoring (20.2 ppg.) and fourth in rebounding (10.6 rpg.); finished career 10th and 11th place on CU’s scoring list in a single season with 460 and 459 points, respectively; when he graduated, Wedman was the fourth best scorer in CU history with 1,251 points (16.7 ppg. average) and had the third best rebounding average (9.1) for a career total of 684 rebounds. Currently ranks ninth all-time in CU career rebounding (684, 9.1 rpg.), 10th in career field goals made (516).

Wedman’s junior year: ranked second in Big 8 Conference in scoring (19.8 ppg.) and team leader in rebounding (9.3).

1982-87: Boston Celtics: where he was a backup player to Larry Bird and Kevin McHale helping the Celtics win two NBA championships.

             Presenting Scott with his jersey is his former CU freshman basketball coach Charlie Gardner, Sox Walseth’s daughter Cindy, and Scott’s wife, Kim. Kim is also a graduate of CU.
