MONTGOMERY, Ala. ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team dropped another close decision this time to No. 50 Alabama, 4-3, Saturday afternoon on the third day of competition at the 18-team Blue-Gray National Collegiate Tennis Classic at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Buffaloes finish with a 1-2 record and drop to 9-5 on the year, while the Crimson Tide improves to 6-7.

CU lost a 4-3 decision to No. 26 Virginia Commonwealth on Thursday, then defeated No. 44 Mississippi State, 4-2 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Buffaloes fell victim once again in losing the doubles point and then subsequently lost the match. So far this spring, the Buffs are 5-9 during the doubles portion in which they lose the point. At No. 2, only Marek Dvorak and Jan Zelezny were able to hold serve with an 8-5 winner.

In singles, the Crimson Tide won three of six singles points for their sixth win in 13 matches this year.

For Colorado, Peter Bjork remained red-hot winning for the sixth straight time. Bjork, ranked 96th nationally, won his fourth straight as a ranked player defeating Mathieu Thibaudeau 6-3, 6-3.

Zelezny also nationally ranked at No. 111 won his fourth straight match as a ranked player defeating Billy Mertz 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-2 at No. 5.

The Buffs rounded out their scoring at No. 6 with Marek Dvorak taking a straight-set winner over Dan Buikema 6-3, 6-4. Dvorak has now won nine of his last 11 matches.

Colorado opens Big 12 Conference play next week traveling to Oklahoma State (March 26) and Oklahoma (March 28) before returning to the Boulder campus for five-straight home matches beginning with Nebraska on April 2.
