Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight, Blanks Portland, 7-0

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? The University of Colorado men’s tennis team wrapped up the weekend with three consecutive wins blanking Portland, 7-0, Sunday afternoon, and New Mexico, 6-1, Saturday night at the University of New Mexico. CU also defeated New Mexico State on Friday, 6-1.
The Buffaloes, ranked No. 49 nationally breezed through its competition with a trio of wins after suffering three straight setbacks at the national indoors two weeks ago. CU improves to 7-3 through the non-conference portion of the schedule.
On Sunday, the Buffs saw straight-set winners from their singles slots, including a sweep of the doubles portion. Eric Molnar made it two in a row with wins at No. 1 singles, while Marko Bundalo, Peter Bjork, Chad Tsuda, and Marek Dvorak also claimed in a pair of victories in as many days. Against the Pilots, Charlie Yemm picked up his first dual match victory of the season at No. 6, also winning in straight sets.
In doubles, Bundalo/Molnar won a pair including a Saturday night upset over the No. 32 nationally doubles team of Jones/Pakkowski, 9-8 (8-6 tie-breaker) from New Mexico. Dvorak and Jan Zelezny also won a pair at No. 3 doubles, while Bjork and Tsuda dropped their first match as a team against New Mexico, then rebounded on Sunday against Portland. Overall, they are 4-1 this dual season.
Overall, Bjork and Tsuda have each won seven singles matches this spring, followed by Bundalo and Dvorak with six victories apiece.
“It was a long night (on Saturday) playing a night match and then coming back on Sunday morning, said head coach Sam Winterbotham. “It was a good challenge for them, they handled it well and took care of what they needed to do today; they were very professional.”
Colorado hosts BYU on Saturday, March 11 at the Harvest House (10 a.m.), then Northern Colorado on Sunday, March 12.
