Five CU MBB Recruits in Denver For Six-Day Hoops Festival Starting Today

BOULDER ? Five incoming University of Colorado men’s basketball student-athletes who will be playing for the Buffaloes in the upcoming 2006-07 academic school year will be in Denver Monday through Saturday (April 10-15) taking part in the six-day Joint Effort Hoops Festival held at Metro State University and at the H. Davis Recreation Center.

The Joint Effort Colorado Hoops Festival includes the Colorado Basketball Classic and Western Regional Tournament and is an exciting basketball program that will bring the top boys and girls basketball players (5th to 12th grade) from throughout Colorado as well as players and college coaches from across America for what should be six great days of highly competitive Colorado basketball.

This year’s event will feature a senior girls national team from the east coast and two boys national senior teams which will include former Denver East standouts Pierre Curtis (Charis Prep) and Andre Himes (Solebury Prep) as well as former Broomfield guard Arin Dunn (Solebury Prep).

Five studnt-athletes who have committed to CU to play basketball in the Fall of 2005 will be present. Kalvin Bay (Tempe, Arizona/Marcos de Niza HS), Xavier Silas (Wolfeboro NH/Brewster Academy [Wolfeboro, N.H.]), Dwight Thorne (Arlington, Texas/Martin HS), Dale Vanwright (Houston, Texas/Bellaire HS), and Jeremy Williams (Memphis, Tenn./Hamilton HS). In addition to other players committed to area schools who will compete against many of Colorado’s top high school seniors.

This year’s Joint Effort Hoops Festival is dedicated to the memory of former Charfield High School basketball players Brian Ellsworth and Michael Heykoop as well as Denver Educator and referee Donnie Wilson.

In addition, there will be games for Colorado’s top freshman, sophomores, and juniors, youth games for boys and girls, a slam dunk contest, a thee-point shoot-out, visiting coaches, awards and sports and education information on College Recruitment, Club Team, Player Development Programs and Summer Camps.
