WALNUT, Calif. ? The University of Colorado’s junior Pete Janson set a regional qualifying mark of 8:53.79 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday at the 48th Mt. SAC Relays at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.

The mark was 30 seconds faster than he ran on Saturday at the Colorado Invitational and was just over a second off of his personal best (9:52.06) set last year at Mt. SAC.

Daniel Kenney ran his first race of the season and finished with a personal record in the 1,500. Kenney finished in 3:50.94. Not only was the time a pr for Kenney, but it was also the best time recorded this season for the Buffs. Rob Thayer ran in a different section of the 1,500 and finished eighth overall. He recorded a mark of 3:51.98.

Wil Buchanan recorded a season-best mark in the 800. He finished in 1:56.14. Teammate Derek Winton did not finish his race in the same event.

In the 5k, Payton Batliner finished 37th overall in the University/Open division. He crossed the finish line in a season-high 14:39.98.

James Begley threw the discus 164-6; just three inches shy of his personal record which he set last Saturday at the Colorado Invitational. Begley placed eighth in his section of the discus. He will participate in the shot put competition with teammates Ryan Willis and Andy Passen tomorrow.

Jenny Barringer is slated to run the 5k at 11 p.m. MT. Kalin Toedebusch ran in another section of the 5k, but her results were not available at press time. Also not available at press time was Blaine Hoogenboom’s javelin result. The results will be reported Friday as several Buffs will compete in the third day of action at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 14.
