BOULDER ? University of Colorado men’s tennis head coach Sam Winterbotham was named the Wilson/ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Winterbotham, now in his fourth year at the helm of the men’s program guided the Buffaloes to a 20-9 record and a NCAA Tournament berth this spring.

CU reached their highest national ranking in the school’s history (No. 23), their first 20-win season since 1997, and first NCAA Tournament berth in eight years.

Earlier this month, Winterbotham was named the Big 12 Conference Co-Coach of the Year.

Winterbotham and the Buffaloes wrapped up the team portion of the season last Sunday falling to UCLA in the tournament’s second round.

Later this month, Winterbotham and junior Eric Molnar, ranked No. 51st in the nation, travel to the NCAA singles tournament, May 24-29 at Stanford University. Molnar is the first CU men’s player since 1996 when Marc Bauer advanced to the Round of 32.
