BOULDER ? University of Colorado Director of Sports Video Jamie Guy has been voted the 2005-06 Big 12 Video Coordinator of the Year by his conference peers. Guy is the first CU faculty member to earn the award since its creation in 1997.

“It’s definitely an honor to be elected by my fellow Big 12 peers,” Guy said. “It’s humbling to be selected by people I work with almost on a daily basis.”

Guy, 31, joins 11 other conference award winners, as well as two at-large nominees who are automatically finalists for the Collegiate Sports Video Association/Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year Award. The voting process has begun, and the winner will be announced at the CSVA convention in Kansas City, Mo., on May 19.

Conference video coordinators work with each other on a regular basis, especially during each sport’s season. Each week, Guy must produce a video package of the Buffs’ previous games to send to opponents’ video departments for scouting purposes. This is in addition to the countless hours he puts in each week preparing video of CU’s practices and games to be viewed in team, coach and position meetings.

“It means a lot to me to get recognition for a lot of the things I do that are behind-the-scenes.” Guy said. “This really helps validate what I’ve been trying to do since I came to Colorado.”

There is no question a video coordinator’s work can be overlooked by outsiders, but within the inner circles of the athletic department, his labor is easily appreciated.

“Captain Video is innovative, enthusiastic and a vital part of what we are trying to do here,” Head Football Coach Dan Hawkins said.

Guy has been with the Buffs since August of 2001. He came to CU from the Chicago Enforcers of the now-defunct XFL, where he worked the lone season of the league’s existence. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1998 where he worked in the Bearcat’s sports video office for four years.

In addition to football, Guy handles the sports video demands of men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and soccer.
