BOULDER ? The University of Colorado athletic department is offering fans an opportunity to learn the basics of college football straight from head football coach Dan Hawkins and his staff.

Football 101 for Women will take place on Tuesday, August 1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Dal Ward Varsity Room. Registrants will learn the essential elements of football like recruiting, what players wear on game day and the X’s and O’s of offense, defense and special teams.

The event is intended to provide a comfortable setting for women to learn about and celebrate Buff football. The clinic activities are interactive learning experiences focused on women, covering all aspects of football. Hawkins and his staff will teach all sessions of the clinic, which will involve active crowd participation.

“I’ve done them in the past at (at Boise State) and they have been hugely successful,” Hawkins said. “The event should be exciting, entertaining and very informative for the females.”

The cost for the event is $50 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the “Your Team” fund designated for Women’s Athletics. Each person will also receive a CU clipboard and T-shirt at the event along with appetizers and soft drinks.

Alice Swanson, executive vice president of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, is one of many Buff fans planning on attending the event.

“My husband is hopeful he won’t be answering the same ?game strategy’ questions I’ve asked for the past 20 years,” she said. “I am bringing a group of friends whose football knowledge ranges from clueless to advanced. It’s a great girls’ night out and a fun way to support CU.”
